This blog has been dead lately… But a lot is actually happening in my life!

I don’t think I mentionned it in here, but I’m part of a ska band, as a trumpet player, since september-october 2007.

Until recently, we didn’t have a name and had nothing to show for. But that has changed!

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to The Skopitones !

Seven musicians, a rhytm section, 3 brass players (sax, trumpet, trombone) playing traditionnal Jamaican Ska.

I could try to describe with words what Jamaican Ska sounds like, but it’s much easier to make you listen to it.

We recorded a small 2 part demo in our Limoilou studios, entirely available through our myspace page (myspace.com/skopitones). Go listen to it!

Firefux

The Firefox (Mozilla) team wanted to break the Guiness World Record for the most downloads in a 24 hours period for its new Firefox 3.0 browser. Although it seems that 9 minutes after placing the precious package on their Website, it went down. Oops.

I just received an email from Firefox to tell me to go get the software. The link they provided me directs me to a page where it says “Download Firefox 3.0″, but just below, the version no. is still 2.0.0.14.

I think the PR team never really consulted the technical team as to how many people they could handle downloading at the same time. Also, I think they never tested their Website modifications before they went online, because their links are bogus.

They might make an excellent browser, but they certainly also succeed at making fools of themselves!

Update: the links are now all fixed… it’s downloading!

Kevin Smith’s latest movie. His movies always seem to have a hint of bad taste. Except Jersey Gir, which is the definition of bad taste. he he.

With the 40 Year Old Virgin actors, Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks and also the former (illegal!) porno actress converted to mainstream movie, Traci Lords.

Here’s the teaser of the movie that will be released in October 2008.

There are no actual scenes from the movie in the teaser, so watch without fear of being spoiled.

RIP Bo Diddley - (1928-2008)

Played through the years with his characteristic rectangular Gretsch guitar. In the 60s, he reshaped the sound of rock n’ roll.

Bo Diddley died today at 79 of a heart failure.

Hey, Bo Diddley… RIP.

One Night Band - Way Back Home

A ska band from Montreal that is getting quite a bit of attention lately. New video.

For those of you living in the Quebec City vicinity, they will be at the Casbah on July 21 as an opening band for the Aggrolites.

They will be part of the Vans Warp Tour in Montreal.

I will be at the Quebec City show.

By the way, my ska band with will soon gig in Quebec City. Stay tuned for dates for an upcoming show.

Big Buck Bunny!

The short animation film Big Buck Bunny is finally available for download, for FREE!

What makes this movie different from any other is the face it was initiated by the Blender Foundation as an open movie project, similar to an open source project.

A small team (7) of the best 3D artists and developers in the Blender community have been invited to come together to work in Amsterdam from October 2007 until April 2008 on completing a short 3D animation movie.

This Open movie project had as main targets:

* Developing tools in Blender for editing and rendering hair, fur or grass
* Improve character animation tools for cartoonish motion and deformation
* Test Blender with giant outdoor environments, with large grassy fields and many trees with leaves
* Further validate Blender as a professional animation creation suite

And secondary:

* Create a great and good looking animation short, licensed freely as open content
* Provide content for other artists to learn from or to re-use, including documentation and tutorials

The movie is about an obese bunny rabbit who gets teased by other wild animals.

Morning Routine

Every morning is the same thing.

A few minutes before the alarm clock goes off, my dog snuggles next to me and breathes into my face his distress facing the fact I’m still in bed. I stay impassible, I’m the head of the pack after all.

The alarm clock goes off. I turn it off and head for the bathroom where I have a shower.

When I come back in the bedroom, I realise that my dog is cuddling next to my wife and sleeps in my spot.

Feels So Good!

It’s sunny outside, the snow is melting, life is good. Feels so good.

What’s better than listening to Feels So Good from Chuck Mangione and drink a daiquiri on the balcony?

Chuck Mangione is a flügelhorn player. Incidently, on this piece, he plays with the same flugel model I got. I don’t master this piece yet though.
