I won 1st place out of 9 on a
PokerStar.com online tournament, Texas Hold’em No Limit 2000$+100$.
I made 9000$ out of a 2000$ investment for registration.
Of course, this is play money. So I still have to pay the mortgage for the house next week. But it’s sweet to finally achieve something tangible at poker.
I practice lots and often, and it paid off this time around.
It did not look too good for me with only 4 out of 9 players remaining. I was in 4th place then with about 1200$ and the leader was at 8 grand, but I managed to call good plays, and got lucky at the right time. That’s what poker is after all, choosing when you will be lucky.
When we finally went heads up, my opponent decided to go all-in on every hand. He probably was ticked off by my conservative approach to the game, so I patiently waited for the right hand for me, and checked on his bet.
I won twice this way, the second time, giving me the title.
I found out that being a little bit more conservative and less aggressive works better for me. I’m trying to get my gameplay spicier, but I think I’ll stick with my technique for now. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it, right?
Now, I know… I know… this is fake money, and the players are playing like dumbasses… but hey! I am the best of dumbasses! Isn’t that something worth braggin about?
Methinks so too.
It’s encouraging. When I pay enough of my debts off, I’ll wager a 50$ just to check whether I should quit my day job or not.

Bien entendu, c’est de l’argent factice. Alors j’aurai toujours à payer l’hypothèque sur la maison la semaine prochaine. Mais ça fait quand même un petit velours de finalement atteindre un but tangible au poker.
Je me pratique souvent, et ça a payé ce coup-ci
Ça ne semblait pas vraiment bien aller pour moi avec seulemenet 4 joueurs sur 9 encore en jeu. J’étais en 4e place alors avec environ 1200$ et le “leader” en avait 8 mille, mais j’ai fait des bons appels de jeu, et j’ai été chanceux au bon moment. C’est ça le poker au fond, choisir quand on sera chanceux.
Quand on a finalement été en face-à-face, mon adversaire a décidé de jouer “All-In” sur toutes les mains. Il était probablement irrité par mon jeu conservateur, alors j’ai attendu patiemment la meilleure main pour moi, et j’ai rejoint sa mise.
J’ai gagné deux fois de cette façon, la deuxième me donnant le titre.
Je trouve qu’être un peu plus conservateur et moins aggressif fonctionne mieux pour moi. J’essaye de donner du piquant à ma façon de jouer, mais je crois que je vais continuer avec ma technique pour le moment. Si c’est pas brisé, pourquoi le réparer?
Bon, je sais… je sais… c’est de la fausse argent, et les joueurs dans ces tournois là jouent en imbécile. Mais… ça veut dire que je suis le meilleur de ces imbéciles! C’est pas quelque chose que je devrais me vanter?
Moi aussi je crois ça.
C’est encourageant. Quand j’aurai payé assez de mes dettes, je vais tenter un petit 50$ pour vérifier si je devrais quitter mon emploi ou non.
