Kyle Baker’s Nat Turner

Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 2:48 am

kyle baker's nat turner
Being a true comic book aficionado, Gog introduced me to Kyle Baker’s work with the excellent graphic novels: I Die At Midnight, You Are Here and the very bloody (and thus awesome) King David, the latter depicting the famous biblical encounter of David vs. Goliath.

Watch a teaser trailer of King David, an upcoming animated comic from the book.

Furthermore, Gog confessed to me that Kyle’s series about his own family, The Bakers, had been an inspiration for his own bi-weekly comic strip. Oh. And if I remember correctly, Baker is the reason Gog’s own depiction of his nose is big. Apparently, Kyle Baker mentionned somewhere that a big nose is funny. You set the record straight in the comments, Gog.

Baker recently published a two-volume comic book series about the life of Nat Turner.

Okay. Who is Nat Turner, you ask me?

From wikipedia:
“Nat Turner was an American slave whose failed slave rebellion in Southampton County, Virginia, was the most remarkable instance of black resistance to enslavement in the antebellum southern United States.

His methodical slaughter of white civilians during the uprising makes his legacy controversial, but he is still considered by many to be a heroic figure of black resistance to oppression.”

The graphics, of which you can see an animated sample to the right are simply astonishingly stunning. I can’t wait to borrow your copy of these books, Gog. :)

You can see what Kyle Baker is up to on his blog or on his Web site.

Useless Flexibility

Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at 2:30 am

This video excerpt seems to be part of a World Record show. You know, these show where people do useless stunts hoping to break a world record yet unheard of such as how far can one thrown snot out of his nose?

Well, the Japanese took two contorsionists, one Russian and one Chinese and they asked them to try and reach down for champagne glasses, each time lowering the glass.

But don’t take my word for it. Watch it.

It’s mesmerizing. I’m amazed, I could never be that flexible. Yet, this feat is completely useless, but I like it.
