New recordings!

The ska band in which I play trumpet, The Skopitones just finished recording 4 new songs to promote the group’s potential to festivals or other shows.

Before the Holidays, we had to let go our trombone player Alex Salmon who had to leave for Germany for work, but we also the pleasure to welcome among us the talented Soul - Jazz - R&B singer Lily Thibodeau.

I had the pleasure to play with Lily with my previous band and it’s totally by chance that our roads cross again. The World is really small!

To reflect the changes in the band, we thought it was appropriate to record new songs where we could hear Lily sing.

You can listen to each song individually on our myspace page: myspace.com/skopitones or all of them in one mix below.
Simply click on the “play” button.

The Skopitones

Mr. Big Stuff - In The Mood For Love - Monkey Do - Freedom Sound

For your pleasure, first, two songs sung by the silky voiced Lily Thibodeau:
- Mr. Big Stuff, ska version of Jean Knight’s hit song
- In The Mood For Love, ska version of Lord Tanamo and The Skatalites
then
- Monkey Do, cover of Monkey Ska of Derrick Herriot, sung by Seby
- Freedom Sound, of the legendary Skatalites, Skopitonised

If you are a show producer or have a venue, you can book our services by sending an email at the following address booking@skopitones.com.

Twice…

Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 7:55 pm

Twice…

I had to shovel to bring my trash to the curb this morning, and I had to shovel to bring it back after the snow fall this evening.
And I will probably need to shovel tomorrow morning to do a touch up.

I have the impression that I can’t be efficient during winter.

The little one was pissy today… she might have been teething… it’s an energy drain.

We also received a letter from my wife’s insurance company and because of a fuck up, we might have to pay a hefty sum. I have the bitter feeling that insurance companies exists only to piss us off. I once had to reimburse my claims to the government of Québec because I had forgotten to change my policy at the drugstore.

I would really like to have a manager, an accountant who takes care of money matters and income taxes. Oh yeah… income tax declarations, I could do without.

I did a quick cleaning of my blogroll. It doesn’t show, I know. It’s always like that after I clean. There are still tons of things I could have gotten rid of. I keep things just in case. Well, those blogs that were dead, or that were not active for like 6 months, they’re gone. Dull or less interesting blogs, gone. Don’t take it too personal, I might actually still be reading you in my Google Reader, but you’re just not linked on my blog anymore.

Watchmen: Tales of The Black Freighter

Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 11:12 pm

The movie Watchmen is to be released March 6, but the real Alan Moore fans who read the comic book, will remember that throughout the graphic novel, at regular intervals, we were entertained with an epic parallel story. Well, the studio who will release the movie has decided to make an animated cartoon out of it and release it in DVD and Blue Ray format at the end of March!!!

Here’s the teaser:
