Top 5 Monkey Songs

It has been a while since I participated in a Problogger.net group writing project. This time, Darren chose “Top 5″ as a topic for the group project, leaving much to the participating bloggers to come up with something original.
Since I run a personal blog and since nobody is really interested about what my favourite colours are, I decided to go with something both fun and a bit challenging instead.
I decided to come up with the Top 5 songs involving monkeys, be it by the title or the topic. Thanks to Gog for the silly idea!
It wasn’t easy, as I didn’t know many songs off the top of my head. So I did some research and narrowed down the bunch I found to these five.
These are the five I feel have the most reach in the population and were the most popular.
Below each finalist, I’ve placed a link to a video so you can watch and listen to the song.
In fifth position, none others than the grand fathers of Rock n’ roll:
5- The Rolling Stones - Monkey Man
In fourth, monkeys are wearing chains and long hair as Skid Row’s heavy tones blow us away:
4- Skid Row - Monkey Business
The third place features the most recent song of the bunch and is held by the popular band led by the ex-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl:
3- The Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench
Straight back from the 80’s this classic New Wave hit song comes a close second:
2- Peter Gabriel - Shock the Monkey
Of course, the no. 1 place could not be anything but a classic. It wasn’t easy choosing between the 2nd and the 1st place, but in the end, this song is aging much better than Gabriel’s:
1- The Beatles - Everybody’s Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey
Because it wasn’t mainstream, I couldn’t rank the following song in this Top 5, but it deserves a special mention. It is as if the singer wrote it after my life. It’s about a programmer, a code monkey. Neat.
0 - Jonathan Coulton - Code Monkey
There are of course many other songs with monkeys in it. Since I’ve already done the hard part of finding them, I decided to use them.

May 9th, 2007 at 8:11 amI actually saw the Stones perform monkey man in concert. A guy dressed as a monkey on stilts chases Mick Jagger around the stage as he sang the song. It was at RFK stadium in I think 1992. Wild!

May 9th, 2007 at 10:53 amI thought this was going to be top five Monkee songs and for some unknown reason I clicke anyway. I overdosed on those Monkees in 1968 but am still strangely drawn to what is written about them. But thanks for taking this in a different direction. Pretty good list.
