Problogger Darren Rowse, while attending his wife and newborn baby, had an ongoing recurring article about what one would do should he/she start over their blogs. At first he asked a few select bloggers, but has now decided to broaden this project and has
started another group project. So I’ll be brief, and answer his question.
If I had to start my blog again…
…I would probably do the same things all over again.
I mean they led me to where I am now, right?
Oh, you mean, if I start another blog.
Well, there’s a few things I would be more careful about, and things I’ve learned from experience.
First off, I would choose a domain name that fits my blog name. Unlike many bloggers who started with a blogspot or livejournal (or the like) ready made websites, I started with my own domain, my own server (thanks again Jay) and Wordpress. So I could basically do what I wanted with my blog right from the beginning. Only, I hadn’t chosen my blog name, yet I had bought martinbreton.com. I mean, it’s my name, so that made sense to me. However, I found it boring to call my blog: “Martin’s blog”, so I decided to go with “BREM experience”, as an interim title I would later change, I though of something more clever. Of course, I lack imagination, so BREM experience sticked, yet my domain name was still martinbreton.com. Not a big deal, but it’s a discrepency I could have avoided if I had thought it thoroughly in the first place.
Secondly, I would decide on a narrower topic, a niche. Of course, I won’t change the way I’m currently running my personal blog, but if I had to get a second blog, it would have to be a niche blog.
As far as promoting my blog, I would try to use my web of acquaintances and online friends as leverage.
The experience I gained from using advertisement on my blog would be put to good use also. I would know what to go for right away.
Experience has no price, my one year of blogging has provided me with lots of it.
So in a way, it’s the BREM experience experience.

Le Problogger Darren Rowse, alors qu’il prenait soin de sa femme et de son nouveau né, a créé un article récurrent ayant comme sujet ce qu’on ferait si on devait recommencer notre blogue. Au début il a demandé à quelques blogueurs sélects d’y répondre, puis il a élargi sa question et a
créé un projet de groupe. Alors je serai bref, et répondrai à la question.
Si j’avais à recommencer mon blogue…
…je ferais probablement les mêmes choses encore.

Bien il y a quelques trucs auxquels je serais plus attentif, et des trucs que j’ai appris avec l’expérience
En premier lieu, je choisirais un nom de domaine qui correspond à mon nom de blogue. Contrairement à plusieurs blogueurs qui ont commencé leur blogue sur une plateforme déjà établie comme blogspot ou livejournal (ou un truc similaire), j’ai commencé avec mon propre nom de domaine, mon propre serveur (merci encore, Jay) et Wordpress. Donc dès le départ, j’ai pu faire ce que je voulais avec mon blogue. Seulement, je n’avais pas choisi le titre de mon blogue, j’avais cependant déjà fait l’acquisition de martinbreton.com. Je veux dire, c’est mon nom, alors c’était sensé selon moi. Cependant, je trouvais que d’appeller mon blogue: “Le blogue de Martin” c’était pas “winner”, alors j’ai décidé d’aller avec “BREM experience”, comme solution par intérim que je changerais plus tard, quand je trouverais quelque chose de meilleur. Évidemment, j’ai peu d’imagination, alors BREM experience est resté alors que mon nom de domaine est aussi resté martinbreton.com. Ce n’est pas si grave, mais c’est quelque chose qui me chicotte et que j’aurais pu éviter si j’avais pensé à mon affaire un peu plus longtemps dès le départ.
Deuxièmement, je choisirais un sujet plus concis. Bien sûr, je ne changerai pas la manière dont je publie sur ce blogue, c’est un blogue personnel après tout, mais si j’avais un second blogue, ça devrait être sur un sujet plus précis.
Pour ce qui est de promouvoir mon blogue, j’essayrais d’utiliser mes amis et connaissances sur le web comme levier.
L’expérience que j’ai acquise avec les publicités sur mon blogue pourrait être mis à profit. Je saurais quoi choisir tout de suite.
L’expérience n’a pas de prix, et mon année de blogueur m’a permis d’en acquérir beaucoup.
Alors d’une certaine façon, c’est l’expérience de la BREM experience.
