Gentle Giant Bunnies

I’m in awe. Look at the size of that bunny!
This huge bunny weighs a massive 7.7 kg (17 lbs), and his ears are a 21 cm (8.2 in) long and he is almost 1m (3 ft 3 in) tall.
The German Giant is big for his breed, which usually tip the scales at around 6kg (13 lbs).
Herman lives in a specially built solid oak hutch and chomps his way through just over 2 kg (4.4 lbs) of food a day. Hans Wagner, his owner says his favourite snack is lettuce. The giant bunny, also takes a vitamin supplement to keep him healthy, and munches through a bale of hay a week.
Rudi, like Herman, is a German Giant, and tips the scales at 8.7 kg (19.2 lbs), a kilo more than Herman.

Le lapin géant ingurgite aussi des suppléments vitaminés pour le garder en santé, et il se fait les dents en passant au travers d’une balle de foin par semaine.

His owner was going to eat him, but after his brush with fame, decided he was too fond of the gentle giant and decided against serving him as a dish.
“He is the king of the barn!” said Erwin Teichmann, the owner.
Rudi crushes Herman’s claim at the title of biggest bunny, but even he isn’t the heftiest hopper in the world.
That honour could go to Robert, who’s owned by Karl Szmolinsky, and has reached a massive 9.2 kg (20.3 lbs).

My bunnies, Bowser and Marvin probably weighs 2 lbs (1 kg). They’re no competition for these giants. I can only imagine how much work these bunnies are! As they say, more food in, more food out.

Mes lapins, Bowser et Marvin pèsent probablement aux alentours de 2 lbs (1 kg). Ils ne sont donc pas de taille pour ces géants. Je ne peux qu’imaginer combien ces lapins sont d’entretien! Comme ils disent, plus de bouffe à l’entrée, d’autant plus à la sortie.

It has become a pretty popular article for search engines It seems that Mr. Szmolinksy caught the attention of Kim Jong-Il, in North Korea, since he sent representatives of the country to negociate a deal with him Indeed, I don’t know exactly why, but North Koreans think they can solve their food shortage probleme by using Mr. Szmolinsky’s giant rabbits, as reported by the German newspaper Der Spiegel. Each rabbit can produce 7 kg of meat, which is enough to feed about 6 to 8 persons for a meal. As we know, rabbits have a fast reproduction cycle of about 1 month, and each reproductive rabbit couple can generate 60 to 80 individuals in a year. Now, the question I ask myself is: with what food do they think they will feed the 80 giant rabbits?!. It takes hay, vegetables, pellets. If they can’t even survive with agriculture, I can’t see how they will break even by feeding the rabbits enough food so they can grow. M. Szmolinsky made a special price for his newlyfound communist friends: €80 instead of the usual €250. It’s good to look pitiful, eh? Personally, I would not eat those, but I can understand those who do. Chinese eat cats and dogs, after all. And Indians don’t eat cows. To each their own sacred animal Good luck to North Koreans. Though I secretly hope that the rabbits will escape their burrow and invade the whole Korean peninsula. Wouldn’t it be cool?
